How ILT Microbiology Proficiency Programs Work
Our microbiology programs are designed to combine international quality standards with practical methodology adapted to the needs of laboratories.
Each kit contains five (5) lyophilized strains of Escherichia coli (enumerated/CFU).
With these strains, laboratories can perform five independent tests, reporting their results for interlaboratory comparison.
In addition, the program allows participation of up to five (5) laboratory analysts. This enables an internal comparison among analysts within the same laboratory, and then a subsequent external comparison with peer laboratories worldwide.
Important: the number of analysts must always be a multiple of five to ensure balanced evaluation.
After submission of the first results, ILT issues an initial report. With subsequent monthly submissions, a validation report is prepared, providing a clear view of the progression and accuracy of results over time.
All results are evaluated using the z-score method (ISO 13528), ensuring objective interpretation:
- │z│ < 2 → Acceptable
- 2 ≤ │z│ < 3 → Questionable
- │z│ ≥ 3 → Not acceptable
This methodology provides laboratories with both external validation against other institutions and internal benchmarking among their own analysts, reinforcing quality assurance processe
